They say the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree, but it’s not just good genes that are passed from one generation to another - it’s life advice. So in celebration of Mother’s Day on Sunday 30th of May, we’re taking a look at everything we learned from the leading woman in our lives.
From giving your skin a break to paying some well-needed attention to your neck, we spoke to some of the women from our best-loved brands as well as the CURRENTBODY team to spill the best beauty advice they got from their mum.
Alice Neal, Social Media Manager at CURRENTBODY:
"My mum always told me that your neck is just as important as your face! It's one of the first places which will give away how old you are if you don't look after it. Remember to spend a couple of minutes moisturising the area at the end of your facial routine and, better yet, invest in a device that will stop the area from ageing!"
Carly Hibbins, Online Content Executive at CURRENTBODY:
“When I was younger, my mum would always tell me how important it was to take my makeup off before I went to sleep. She also taught me that wipes don't cleanse your skin properly. I used to use them because they were so much quicker, and as a teenager I didn't really think about taking care of my skin. One day, she told me to use some of her makeup remover with a cotton pad after I'd used a makeup wipe. To my surprise, there was still lots of makeup left on my face - after that I never used a makeup wipe again!”
Catherine Wilson, Founder of OLIVIEREWILSON:
"Moisturise! Moisturise! Moisturise! And don't forget your elbows and knees!"
Helen Royle, Graphic Designer at CURRENTBODY:
“You’re never too young to start using eye cream. Always take your makeup off before bed (no matter how drunk you are!) Oh, and don’t use a brush on your hair when wet. Instead, gently brush through with a wide tooth comb. Your hair is at its weakest when wet so can be prone to breakage.”
Lucy Acton, Copywriter at CURRENTBODY:
“My mum has a no-makeup day every week to let her skin breathe. She’ll spend time pampering, using her favourite products and just giving her face a rest day. She’ll make sure she’s cleansed, toned and moisturised - and finds that her makeup goes on better the next day. It’s something I try to do at least once a week too.”
Anne-Marie Odesanya, German Digital Marketing Manager at CURRENTBODY:
“My mum’s best advice has always been to moisturise, she says it's the key to her good skin.”
